11th International Symposium on Spermatology OKINAWA, Japan 24-29 June, 2010
[Welcome]
On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee I would like to invite you to join us for the 11th International Symposium on Spermatolog, held in Okinawa, Japan between 24 (Thur.) and 29 (Tue.) June 2010. It is fitting that the Symposium is held in Japan, as this year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jean Clark Dan, who discovered the sperm acrosome reaction in sea urchin and developed the subject at Marine Biological Stations in Japan. The first symposium on spermatology was held in Roma-Siena Italy in 1969. Subsequent symposia have taken place every four years in Stockholm (Sweden), Boston (USA), Seillac (France), Fujiyoshida (Japan), Siena (Italy), Cairns (Australia), Montreal (Canada), Cape Town (South Africa) and Madrid (Spain in 2006). The program of the 11th Symposium will cover recent progress in areas of genetics, function, structure, phylogeny, and topics of relevance to sperm scientists working in not only basic scientific field but also agricultural, pharmaceutical and clinical fields. More than 40 world expert speakers will present their most recent discoveries. The venues of the Symposium are Okinawa Convention Center and the Bankoku Shinryokan that was created as a site for 2000 G-8 summit. The satellite symposium will be held near Sesoko Station, Tropical Biospher Research Center, University of the Ryukyus in June 30 (Wed). Okinawa prefecture is located in southwest Japan and is a fascinating and vibrant modern place with unique traditions, a wonderful subtropical climate and beautiful coral reefs and beaches. The local Organizing Committee members of the 11th Spermatology Symposium and People and Nature of Okinawa are looking forward to meeting with all of you in Okinawa in June 2010.」 Best regards Masaaki Morisawa
